We Were on a Break

Part I

The Sacred Doesn’t Stay Behind

The last two weeks haven’t looked very “spiritual.”

There were no long hours of meditation or deep theological study. Instead, there were spreadsheets, logistics, and the heavy lifting of everyday life. I stepped away from the ministry’s front lines to handle the practicalities that keep a life—and a vision—running.

But here is what I discovered in the “away”: The sacred does not stay behind when we shift our focus.

Faith wasn’t waiting for me to return to my altar. It was right there in the car during a specific song on the radio. It was in the rhythmic smoke of a single stick of incense lit between meetings. It was the silent chant that anchored me while I navigated the mundane.

If you’ve been feeling like you’ve “lost your way” because life has demanded your attention elsewhere, let this be your permission to breathe. Shifting your focus to the practical isn’t a spiritual failure; it’s a spiritual evolution. Our faith is a companion, not a taskmaster. It travels with us, taking new forms and fulfilling purposes we haven’t even named yet.

Gratitude grows when we realize we aren’t walking alone—even when we’re just doing the laundry.
